The dynamic city of Trondheim gains its first Regus Centre, based in Norway’s first ‘energy-positive’ office development

Regus continues its rapid expansion by opening a location in Trondheim, Norway’s third-largest city.

The leading flexible workspace brand will open up inside Powerhouse Brattørkaia, Norway’s first energy-positive office building, meaning it produces more energy than it uses. As well as offering high-quality flexible office space for companies and entrepreneurs in Trondheim, Regus will also operate Powerhouse Brattørkaia’s reception and meeting centre.

“We are very happy to come to Trondheim, a city of innovation and dynamism,” says Thomas Weeden, Country Manager in Norway for IWG, which owns Regus. “Many of our existing customers have asked if we would establish ourselves here and we are pleased to be able to offer offices in one of the most environmentally-friendly buildings in Norway.”

For Regus, choosing a location that takes the environment seriously is important. The real estate industry is one of the most environmentally harmful industries, and the flexible workspace sector has a key part to play in helping businesses use resources in a more sustainable way.

With the option of short-term leases, flexible office providers like Regus allow tenants to upscale or downsize the amount of workspace they are using as their business evolves – something that’s rarely an option with conventional office space. This not only brings cost-efficiencies – it also reduces waste in energy and office materials.

“We believe that renting no more than the office space you need is good for the environment,” says Weeden. “When we can also offer workspace in an energy-positive building, we are truly creating the office solution of tomorrow.”

Even before the Brattørkaia Regus Powerhouse has opened, its community is growing fast. Following huge interest, more than 20 percent of the flexible office space has been snapped up. “Two of the centre’s office spaces have been rented before opening, and we are experiencing strong demand,” says Weeden. “And there is still plenty of room for more members in the 1,400-square-metre space.”

One of the companies moving into the new Regus Centre is Unoma, which has developed a portal that simplifies operations for small- and medium-sized construction businesses.

“We chose Regus and Powerhouse because both the concept and the premises fit our business optimally,” Kjetil Hveding, CEO of Unoma. “As an entrepreneurial company, we do not know the needs of the future, and Regus gives us the opportunity to regulate the amount of office space we use as needed. In addition, we travel a lot, and rely on easily accessible premises all around the world.”

Regus members have 24/7 access to Regus Centres in 3,000 offices in more than 1,100 cities in 110 countries – not just the centre their company is based in. They can also use the Regus app to seamlessly book themselves in to these locations, or hire private meeting rooms when they are travelling on business.

“Unoma challenges the construction industry with innovative digital solutions, and Regus does the same for office solutions,” says Hveding. “That’s why the concept fits us like a glove.”

The new location in Trondheim is just the beginning for Regus’s presence in the region. It signifies the brand’s ambition to grow rapidly across Norway. “We are working to build a national network and Norway’s largest office platform,” says Weeden. “Getting started in Trondheim – the capital of central Norway – feels right. We envisage the region will continue to evolve and believe there will be room for more centres here going forward.”
